2. Ensuring Real Climate Impact
Additionality is a core principle in climate and environmental projects. It ensures that the carbon removal associated with a project delivers measurable climate benefits that would not have occurred without the intervention.
In the context of climate credits, additionality is essential to maintain environmental integrity. Projects must demonstrate that the captured carbon is a direct result of their specific actions, not a consequence of pre-existing plans or natural developments.
Trefadder’s climate forests are fully additional. This means they would not exist without the sale of climate credits, giving our clients confidence that their investment drives real change.
If a landowner intends to plant a forest regardless of external funding, the project does not qualify as additional. Trefadder ensures true additionality by enabling reforestation on land that would otherwise remain unused—financed through the purchase of climate credits. This guarantees that each tonne of CO₂ removed is directly linked to our partners’ contribution.
We only plant on land that fully meets the strict criteria for additionality – ensuring that your climate efforts lead to genuine and lasting impact.
