3. Legal framework

Long-time horizons are essential in climate forestry. Project cycles often span one or two generations and are critical for maximizing both carbon capture and long-term storage.

Trefadder operates in Norway, one of the world’s most stable and transparent countries for long term climate forestry. Projects benefit from predictable regulations, low corruption, and landowners with a strong tradition of responsible land management. This provides our international partners with a level of project security that is rarely matched elsewhere.

To further strengthen this foundation, we have developed a comprehensive legal framework in collaboration with the law firm BAHR. It governs the full lifecycle of each project, from species selection and land use agreements to site preparation, planting, monitoring, forest management, and eventual harvesting.

These forest cycles typically span 100 years. The legal framework ensures that carbon storage is preserved throughout the forest’s life and beyond, by using harvested wood in durable construction.

This legal structure is a cornerstone of Trefadder’s operating model. It is designed to secure long term climate value for current and future generations.
