Carbon Capture with Trefadder

HighComp AS contributes to a better natural environment by reducing the carbon footprint and compensate for the remaining emissions through Trefadder.

Norway has started the green shift, and like most responsible corporations, we also set ourselves the goal of becoming climate neutral. We want to reduce our emissions and choose more environmentally friendly. In addition, we want to contribute with climate compensatory measures for afforestation through Trefadder.

Our contribution makes our business climate neutral! We view Trefadder as a long-term collaboration. Together, we contribute to slow down the severe climate change we are facing in Norway and the rest of the world.

CO2 Capture

We are supporting carbon capture through tree planting in Norwegian climate forests.

Growing these forests will store more CO2 and contribute to an improved environment, in addition to the positive social impact of creating local jobs.

The climate contribution is certified, and you can visit our climate forest in the Norwegian wilderness.

Photosynthesis is nature's way of capturing CO2.

Trefadder has established the first Norwegian climate forests. We make sure that trees are planted in the right places, and at the right time.

We aim to fulfill the UN sustainability goals 13 and 15 by our climate compensatory actions:

13. CLIMATE ACTION
– Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

15. LIFE ON LAND
– Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

CO2 capture

Trees capture CO2 through photosynthesis.

A Norwegian spruce can capture up to 2 tonnes of CO2.

O2 is released into the atmosphere

CO2 is stored in the tree, roots, and soil.

4,79 tonnes of CO2

On average a person emits
4,79 tons of CO2 each year

80 tonnes of CO2

1000 m2 of Norwegian climate
forest will bind 80 tonnes of CO2

Applies to CO2 sequestration in wood, roots, and soil.

99 m²

You need to plant 99 m² of climate forest annually to become carbon neutral.

100% traceability

Trefadder has full traceability of the entire value chain, from seed to plant and forest. The trees first grow for two years in a greenhouse before we plant them in the forest soil.

minitre

We plant the right trees in the right places.

By planting around 1.400 trees per acre in carefully selected locations, we handle every step of the planting process with great responsibility. Trefadder achieves biological diversity by avoiding monocultures maintain natural habitats for plants and animals.

FAQ, Trefadder

The income from Trefadder sponsorship contributes directly to the financing of climate forests. To ensure a predictable production of climate forests, the areas must be registered as climate forests. Trefadder agrees with the forest owner and trees are planted. During the life of the climate forest, quality assurance and maintenance are also required, so that we achieve maximum carbon capture and good living conditions for all trees.

Trefadder only chooses to utilize areas that do not conflict with other important natural values, cultural monuments, or protected areas. The climate forests are established in areas where the forest owner has the opportunity to manage and care for the forest. Municipal forestry management will control all planted areas.

The Norwegian Environment Agency, NIBIO, and NMBU have assessed the effect of climate afforestation in Norway. The binding effect from the research project is estimated at 60 tonnes of carbon per decare. We are well within the margins of error and our customers can be sure that they get what they have paid for.

The climate forest will last until it has bound the maximum amount of carbon, which can take up to 90 years. After the felling of the climate forest, the new forest will be planted in the areas. This is how we continue to store carbon and produce oxygen

Compensatory tree planting means that we plant forests that correspond to your annual carbon emissions. We are more than happy to make a carbon account for you so that you have an overview of your environmental footprint.

All tree planting will bind carbon. If the world's forest area is increased by 1.5%, we will bind enough carbon to solve the climate crisis. Experience from similar projects around the world shows that it is important to plant in places where the trees can grow under optimal conditions.

In Norway, there are already good systems and routines that ensure that climate forests grow without being removed by the authorities or forest owners. Our partners can be sure that the climate forests can bind carbon and that trees are not removed.

By supporting Trefadder, you have access to visit your climate forest.

A climate quota is a permit to emit one tonne of CO2. The authorities allocate companies and state a certain amount of quotas, which can then be traded between different companies or countries. The quotas define the market price of CO2 emissions.

There are different types of quotas, including EUA and CER. Common to these is that each quota corresponds to emissions of one tonne of CO2 and that they are approved under the Kyoto agreement. Climate quotas are traded on stock exchanges and prices vary based on supply and demand.

Trefadder is not part of the climate quota system. It is therefore not possible to speculate on quotas purchased through Trefadder.

We at Trefadder have made things easy. We plant trees here in Norway and satisfy both national and international standards for tree planting. In practice, you have full control over the carbon storage process. You can come and visit your climate forest here on Hjelmeland! Trefadder partners help to support local workplaces, and you have full control over the carbon storage process.

Trefadder is a Norwegian initiative for planting climate forests. We collaborate with landowners all over Norway to create a better climate.
