Which areas will be most efficient in terms of carbon sequestration?

It would initially be most appropriate to consider establishing forests on overgrown areas. These areas have not stored large amounts of carbon and will therefore have the least impact on existing carbon stocks. Areas with high production capacity should be prioritized and there should be good accessibility, so that the measure will be interesting for landowners.

Harvest-ready forests have limited absorption of CO2. Such areas can be prioritized for felling if the biomass removed can be used in a way that reduces greenhouse gas emissions in other sectors. Cultivated land under overgrowth, which meets the forest definition, may still have much of its environmental value intact. Caution should be exercised in such areas.
