Norwegian climate forest

Norway is a good place to plant climate forests. We are known for setting high standards, have a stable political landscape and long experience in forestry. This means that our supporters can be sure that the tree planting will be carried out and cared for in a good way.

We live in a long country with both coastal and inland climates. Temperature, precipitation and soil affect the landscape in different ways across the country. At the same time, climate change is changing the rules of the game for which species thrive best. Although Norway has not been affected to a large extent by climate change, like other countries, research shows that we are also affected by this.

Many species thrive better when winters become shorter and summers become longer. Areas that were once open landscapes have been replaced by dense forests within a few generations.

While some parts of the country have received less precipitation, others have received more. Areas that are not used to much snow are experiencing heavy snowfall in the winter, while other places have had snowless winters. These changes are also affecting the nature around us in various ways. The tree line in the mountains is constantly rising and in places where there used to be only moss and heather, there are now forests. In some areas of the country, the forests are threatened, while in other places the forests are thriving.

Different forests also have different climate footprints. Some tree species bind more carbon than others. Sun conditions, rain, soil, animals and many other factors affect growth and thus also the degree of carbon binding. But there are also many other factors that come into play. Dense forests, where snow accumulates on the treetops, will reflect more sunlight than forests in snow-free areas. The former will therefore contribute to more global warming, based on the reflection of sunlight.
